Tagar grows in temperate Himalayan
forests at elevations of 1,500 to 3,000
meters. It prefers moist woodland soil
and shaded slopes.
Its roots are used as a mild sedative
and nervine tonic. It is prescribed for
insomnia, anxiety, hysteria and
nervous restlessness. It works
through valepotriates and related
compounds that affect the central
nervous system.
